They had come to visit their confiscated pet chimp when they were attacked by two others. Mr James was defaced, castrated, and otherwise disfigured; when a keeper with a gun shot one of the attackers, the other one dragged Davis down a road before it, too, was shot. The motive in that case seems to have been jealousy, more or less. The Davises had been feeding their chimp birthday cake, a privelege which made his rivals feel his social position was climbing at the expense of theirs.Gordon Gricehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13068980330242909601noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8049832311913108906.post-42817388118723898732012-06-29T07:32:27.549-05:002012-06-29T07:32:27.549-05:00I have to wonder what prompted the attack. When I ...I have to wonder what prompted the attack. When I was a child, my father told me the worst thing I could ever do is allow an animal to 'smell fear' from me. I wonder if this person was wearing a cologne that triggered the response, if his natural odor was something that brought them to a frenzy. Or if he had at some point simply infuriated one of them. Chimps are very intelligent creatures and they do hold grudges. I also wonder if they have enough room in their enclosures. I have seen dogs that had been driven to madness by being crated too often and too long. (Dee)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
