Beaver Battles Boy Scout Leader

Oscar Wilde in a Beaver Coat

Another beaver attack--the second one I've heard about in recent weeks.

Rabid beaver attacks NY Scout leader swimming in Pa. river; Scouts use rocks to kill animal - The Washington Post

"Fifty-one-year-old Normand Brousseau, of Pine Plains, was swimming in eastern Pennsylvania on Aug. 2 when a beaver swam through his legs and bit him in the chest. The animal then bit him in the leg, buttocks, arm, hand and torso before he managed to grab it and hold its jaw closed.

One Boy Scout pulled Brousseau to shore, where he tossed the beaver away from him. The Scouts then used rocks to kill the animal.

A doctor confirmed the beaver had rabies."

No word on whether the beaver was gay.

Thanks to Bob Z. for the news tip.

  1. I'll be happy when the beaver's name is Justin. >:D

  2. Oscar Wilde featuring as the photo on an article dealing with the Boy Scouts...you'll be lucky if you aren't hollowed out by an angry mob! But seriously, this sort of makes you grateful Castoroides is no longer part of America's fauna.

  3. Giant beavers! Sounds like another one for that book of Croconut's.

    1. There was another giant beaver besides Castoroides :> Not to speak of the really monstrous rodents that roamed South America as well...

    2. Yes, Phoberomys--essentially a guinea pig the size of a small car. May have been semi-aquatic too, like the capybara.

    3. Phoberomys, yes, but also Josephoartigasia which was even bigger, and there may be bigger things waiting to be found.

  4. Josephoartigasia was interesting when I looked it up--reminiscent almost of the diprotodonts in Australia at first glance. World's largest snake, world's largest meat-eating dinosaur (mass-wise, though Spinosaurus may have been longer) world's biggest rodent, world's largest spider, world's largest bird of prey, world's largest eagle (or tied for top 3, anyhow...)South America does things big, it seems.
