Last week, a group of teenaged hikers were attacked by bees in Southern California . One teen suffered more than 200 stings. A boxer dog accompanying the hikers apparently provoked the attack when he disturbed a nest. The dog died of multiple stings.

I have read that a bee's stinger disconnects from it's abdomen primarily in elastic skin, such as that on mammals. It is not something that occurs when a bee is stinging an insect.
